A Fun Activity For Your Kids Right At Home! | The Ultimate Obstacle Course

The kids have been practicing their basketball and baseball skills for the last few days and I have to say they have really improved! However… I’m not sure it will be enough to take on my ultimate obstacle course!

The kids and I have been cooped up and isolated inside our house since March 14, with the exception of me leaving for a few doctors appointments and a couple curbside pick up purchases. I don’t even know the exact number of days it’s been, but as I’m sure all of us are feeling the same way…it’s been a VERY LONG TIME!

We have been busy with schoolwork for the last four weeks and as we head into week five, I thought it was time to have a little extra fun. The kids have been playing in our backyard and riding their bikes on the sidewalk in front of our house and as much as they are enjoying that, I wanted to do something even better, so I thought what’s better than an obstacle course and to do it for the World’s Biggest Play Date!

This is the second annual World’s Biggest Play Date, hosted by Little Tikes and we are so excited to be celebrating it again this year. Last year we attended the event at the Toronto Zoo and it was so much fun playing together with so many other families and then exploring the Toronto Zoo. This year is a little different from last year, as we are all self-isolating, so the possibility of getting together is not an option, but just because we cannot get together, it doesn’t mean we cannot Play Big together!

We want to encourage you to join us and Play Big together for this year’s World’s Biggest Play Date. I am sharing my ultimate obstacle course with you to give you some ideas to put together your very own obstacle course or to even copy the one I have done.

Before I share my obstacle course, I just want to quickly tell you about the event. The World’s Biggest Play Date is on Saturday May 16th and everyone is welcome to join right at your own home. Little Tikes has even created a Play Date Party Kit that is free and filled with activity sheets and decorations that you can download and print to complete your party. You can also join the Little Tikes sweepstakes for a chance to win 1 of 5 prizes of $1000 worth of Little Tikes toys, simply by signing up. Now time for my Ultimate Obstacle Course!

When I designed this obstacle course, I wanted to make it fun, but also not too complicated because my kids are only 4 and 6 years old, but I also wanted to make it a little challenging. So instead of making each obstacle difficult, I just added a few more and have it spaced out from our backyard to our front yard. The kids will go one at a time and start at our front door and we will time each of their races.

I don’t think it should be too difficult for the kids to do and I really think they are going to have a lot of fun with it! I think before they start, Dan or I will have to do a run through of the entire thing while they watch so they know where to go, but we will also be there guiding them along the way.

My only concern is the weather. I’ve been checking the weather for next Saturday every day for the last few days and it started off with a high of 18 and sunny skies, then it went to 17 and raining and now it says 18 and sunny/cloudy. We still have 3 days to go, so I’m hoping the weather stays that way or changes and we have clear sunny skies. If not I think I can manage setting everything up inside our house, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for good weather.

I hope my obstacle course has given you a little inspiration to create your own or if you have all the items I have, you can copy mine! I’m looking forward to a little fun next Saturday and I hope you can all join us and Play Big for the World’s Biggest Play Date!
