We are so excited share with you our new addition to the house…our Google Home Mini!
With a simple “Okay Google,” we can instantly unlock so many experiences and features. From playing our favourite song, setting a timer for the cookies in the oven, checking the traffic before heading out to work and even turning on the kids’ favourite show on the TV (with the addition of Google Chromecast), the Google Home Mini is truly a hands-free assistant.
I have to say, we are loving all the features of our GHM and it’s so fun trying out all the fun experiences available. We were so excited to learn that Google has just recently announced even more family-friendly experiences for Google Assistant! The new experiences launched in Canada at the end of November and they were designed specifically for families with kids.
The new experiences offer great ways to learn, play and imagine together as a family and I think it’s great that kids can participate too. We are getting the kids involved and showing them how to interact with the GHM, by teaching them what to say and although we still need some more practice, it’s fun watching them try!
The first two experiences that we tested out were The Wiggles – Choose your own adventure with Emma and Call Santa. Both experiences are perfect for kids and also as a family because they are very interactive and keep you engaged with the questions they ask.
The Wiggles – Choose your own adventure with Emma, is all about joining Emma on an adventure through town as she looks for her friends to bring to her concert. Simply say “Hey Google, talk to The Wiggles,” to begin your adventure! The adventure starts off with Emma in the house and you get to help her choose which colour guitar she will bring to the concert, then you are given two different room options to choose from and the one you pick determines where you go next to search for her friends, the other Wiggles members! Throughout the adventure, you can dance, play games and listen to fun songs with your kids and of course with The Wiggles!
Call Santa is the perfect experience for this time of year and all you have to say is “Okay Google, call Santa!” You are instantly connected to the North Pole, where an Elf answers and directs your call to Santa. You then hear a jolly greeting from Santa himself, as he is rehearsing for his concert. He then asks if you want to help him out and after answering a few questions you get to dance along as Santa sings!
CBC Kids News [Canadian], is another new experience and with the simple command “Ok Google, Play CBC Kids News,” you are given all of the latest news stories that are relevant to Canadian kids. The news stories include daily local, national and international stories. To hear all the stories just say “Hey Google, play CBC Kids News” for the stories begin!
For those of you who speak French, there is also a new experience – Boukili Audio! This experience sounds amazing and I think would be a great learning tool for kids who are just starting out with the French language. After listening to stories on many different topics, including animals, travel, music and nutrition, you are asked a series of multiple choice questions. These questions test your listening and comprehension of the French language. To begin this experience, you would say “Ok Google, Parler avec Boukili Audio.”
And lastly, if your kids are Hatchimal fans, just like our kids, they are going to love the Hatchimals Character Alarms, set to be released in 2019! With a simple “Hey Google, set a Hatchimals alarm,” you can add in extra fun into your daily routine with music, fun facts, challenges and words of inspirations from some of your favourite Hatchimals characters.
